Re: GhostBSD-11 testing the "test" repository
That's a very good question!ASX wrote:"/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin"NevilleGoddard wrote:So the difference is I used lightdm to log in
we are getting there ... now, the next question is:
where/when (related to lightdm) the PATH is redefined ?
For clarity these are the results on FreeBSD:
SLiM login echo $PATH
/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin
lightdm (with "fix") login echo $PATH
/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/home/keef/bin
lightdm (no "fix") login echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin
no SLiM or lightdm (text login) echo $PATH
/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/home/keef/bin
It seems that lightdm somewhere is changing the PATH.
Can I ask another question?
On GhostBSD are you having trouble connecting to distrowatch.com? I can't connect to it with Firefox, Chromium or Midori.
I can connect with my Android and on my wife's Windows machine wirelessly on this network
If I put a linux live CD in I can connect to distrowatch with an ethernet network but not with GhostBSD or FreeBSD wirelessly or ethernet.
If I ping I get:
# ping www.distrowatch.com
PING www.distrowatch.com (82.103.136.226): 56 data bytes
and that's it. If I do google I get;
ping www.google.com
PING www.google.com (216.58.221.164): 56 data bytes

Re: GhostBSD-11 testing the "test" repository
No, I don't have problem to connect to distrowatch.comNevilleGoddard wrote: On GhostBSD are you having trouble connecting to distrowatch.com? I can't connect to it with Firefox, Chromium or Midori.

You results seems to evidentiate a problem along the path, between you and distrowatch.
The fact you can connect to distrowatch from a different IP also confirm this.
Usually those failures are temporary, eventually contact you ISP.
The right utility to troubleshoot these issues is traceroute
Code: Select all
# traceroute distrowatch.com
traceroute to distrowatch.com (82.103.136.226), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

Re: GhostBSD-11 testing the "test" repository
I was having problems with the hplip-toolbox. It would start, but there were no "Actions" . The field was blank, and the toolbox gui would crash. But it would print fine.
I fixed this by editing the /usr/local/share/hplip/ui5/devmgr5.py file line 1071 and changed it from:
fp = open("/etc/hp/hplip.conf", "r")
to
fp = open("/usr/local/etc/hp/hplip.conf", "r")
and now it seems to be fixed.
Also it's probably not a big problem, but I keep getting update notifications for software upgrades but there are no updates but I do get notifications for actual updates.

Re: GhostBSD-11 testing the "test" repository
I did a fresh install on my laptop with intel graphics and I updated with the GhostBSD repo . I disabled the FreeBSD repository and ran the command:
pkg upgrade -f
and I can't get to the desktop and slim won't start.
I get the message:
/lib/libz.so.6: version ZLIB_1.2.9 required by /usr/local/lib/libpng16.so.16 not found
xinit: connection to X server lost
and I think this is the problem.
Any ideas?

Re: GhostBSD-11 testing the "test" repository
Is this i386 or amd64 ? sorry about asking that, but it is possible there is a mistake in the reposNevilleGoddard wrote:I did a fresh install on my laptop with intel graphics and I updated with the GhostBSD repo . I disabled the FreeBSD repository and ran the command:

Also you installed from ? GhostBSD 10.3 ?
And you configured which GhostBSD repo exactly ?
Anyway, it appear that libpng (from ports/pkgs) require a different version of libz.so.6 (part of the freebsd system, not from port). this is telling me something is out of sync.
For a recap, we have by now four set of pkg repos:
FreeBSD/GhostBSD 10.3 - i386
FreeBSD/GhostBSD 10.3-amd64
FreeBSD/GhostBSD 11.1-i386
