This has been discussed before here and in freebsd forums for other iMacs with CS4206 audio, but there appears to be no solution?
The sound works fine in the latest ubuntu and of course in OS X. It sounds horribly treble: the internal speakers of the iMac sound like a pair of headphones (not worn) with the volume turned all the way up. I was planning on using this old mac as a media player/TV so this problem is a showstopper for me.
I ended up testing Ghostbsd the iMac when I reaplaced its hard drive with one from one of my old laptops. Btw, there are no fan problems: I just plugged the laptop drive into the sata cables in the iMac and it works perfectly without any special sensor or adaptors.
Sigh, I'll probably just go back to Ubuntu....But it kind of sucks having to remove all the snap rubbish again....
iMac 27" 2011 sound quality unusably horrible
