Ideologically Driven Tech Choices

What brought me here from Linux?

Ideology. I had no real reason to change anything as essential as the entire operating system on both of my computers. I was perfectly happy with it!

But ideology drives almost all my choices in life. Microsoft went evil, so I switched to Linux. Mozilla went off the rails ideologically and partnered with evil Google, so I switched.

Now even down to the kernel itself, the Linux Foundation has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of IBM, Microsoft, etc. They've made Linus a millionaire - good for him - but at a cost. They've kicked out Russian maintainers and weaponized the contributor's code of conduct. It's ideology.

That's what has brought me here. As long as there are alternatives to unethical, unreasonable, or just downright evil products and services, I'll adapt. Is that weird or obsessive? I guess it is, since most of my friends and family still use Microsoft, Google, etc even knowing that they're exploiting their users, spying on them, and selling their data. But to me, they're the ones who are acting weird.

The GhostBSD project seems to take a simple "be kind" approach to woke/non-woke controversy. Here is what can be found in the "Code of Conduct."

The GhostBSD community has always worked to be a welcoming and respectful community, and we want to ensure that doesn't change as we grow and evolve.

All contributors do it in their spare time, as a hobby. Your contribution will be used by other people, and you in turn will depend on the work of others. Any decision you take will affect other users. You should take those consequences into account.

This includes, but is not limited to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, color, immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, ###, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political belief, religion or lack thereof, and mental and physical ability.

Please choose your words carefully and be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary behavior aren't acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to:

Violent threats or language directed against another person;
Discriminatory jokes and language;
Posting sexually explicit or violent material;
Posting (or threatening to post) other people's personally identifying information ("doxing").
Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms.
Unwelcome sexual attention.
Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

So we have a few rules that we ask people to follow:

Be friendly and patient;
Be welcoming;
Be considerate;
Be respectful;
Be collaborative;
Be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others, when we disagree, try to understand why.

This rules should be considered on all areas of this project, like forum, wiki, telegram, IRC, bug report and so on.

To sum up, respect others, even if you disagree, and avoid causing drama. This project only has CoC to prevent issues of the past.
