Got 5 new updates today, so ran those (on both a VM in VBox and on real hardware), both completed OK and rebooted.
On both I went into Software Station to look for something, and about 15-20 seconds after opening it popped up a dialog prompting me to upgrade PKGBASE to continue to get updates. Since I use the recommended ZFS file system, I continued (on both).
The progress bars got to what looked about 45%, and stopped moving. I started the process on the VM a couple minutes before the bare-metal copy, so it should be further along. Anyway, the VM popped up a duplicate dialog to the upgrade message. Figuring the first process had indeed hung, I clicked OK, but the progress bar hung during the 'creating boot environment' option, so I figure 'oops' and closed everything.
On the bare-metal instance I just cancelled the solitary instance of the upgrade, and closed the Software Station on both machines.
Re-running the SS, I do NOT get the upgrade prompt anymore.
I figure it is now hosed on the VM, but it should have asked me again on the bare-metal copy if it hasn't finished.
Advice?
1) VirtualBox 6.1.50_Ubuntu r161033 on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon
2) Dell OptiPlex 7020
GhostBSD 24.04.1, (14.0-STABLE)
PKGBASE update
Re: PKGBASE update
Update: I rebooted both, and when I run SS, I get offered the upgrade again.
Verified the FS with mount, and it is ZFS (both).
Re-running on both...

Update2:
Re-running on both...this time when the 2nd dialog pops up while the first is still running, I cancelled. It cancelled the progress bar dialog of the first, too.

@judd
OK, just returning to this after a few days away and just saw your reply.
I will give that a try next.
But before I read your message I checked the update app on both VM and bare-metal and saw updates present, so I ran those. The VM finished and rebooted, and now the version was 2024.04.2. I re-ran the software station and was presented with the same message, so I'll wait for the thing to time out with a 2nd message, and I'll cancel and follow your directions.
UPDATE: on VM doing steps now...starting SS...so far no message this time. But, I forgot the reboot step, doing that -- nope, still message after reboot and run SS
The update on the bare-metal install is bigger, and I'll let it finish and reboot. Right now the version is 2024.04.1, so I expect it will be 2024.04.2 after it is finished. Then I'll run the steps you sent on that one...

Re: PKGBASE update
You know, I really need to read the whole message -- I thought the pkg upgrade would resolve it. So I still need to run the GUI upgrade. OK, once I reboot and get the upgrade message again, I'll try to re-run it...
UPDATE: RE-running GUI pkg upgrade process, downloading...after sitting in the progress bar a while, the dialog came up a second time, so I cancelled that, which cancels the progress bar too.

Re: PKGBASE update
OK, so I decide to start over, and watch the download network usage. Something definitely downloading when the progressbar sitting at Downloading.
At 3/4 of a GB the dialog pops up again.
I know from previous attempts, if I cancel it, the whole process cancels.
If I click Upgrade, the whole thing starts over, but hangs at the boot-environment-creation step.
This time I chose to let it sit there and ignore it, and according to the network usage, the download continues uninterrupted.... as I write this, the d/l is up to 1GB...
