update:
I did a fresh install, creating a bogus account. upon reboot, created a root password, my real account. editing the /etc/group file to match bogus account.
So far the only thing found NOT to work, is worker

My rant with the update & subsequent reinstalls 1: root account disabled by default. enough said 2: no ability to set hostname when installing 3: no more ability to set UID:GID when installing when changed after first reboot. LightDM will not start MATE I have this system setup with olde freeBSD...

just an update. i grabbed nomBSD, which has a gui front end/live media.
i was able to get a gui started. having issues getting things configured, but it looks like it works. Maybe within an update or two, things will work for us

I believe FreeBSD , at the oment, only supports this chipset in FreeBSD 15.
