Basically you have to run

cat /dev/sndstat

And change the default sound device by putting an entry in

/etc/sysctl.conf

It has not been deprecated. Run winecfg as normal user and follow the instructions in the terminal

Nice. I once had the same problem you did and I set my microphone to zero and that fixed it

You could try turning off your screensaver. It could be something to do with power management. Try turning off automatic screen blanking etc. I'm just guessing. Also look at running dmesg -a in a terminal to see what you can find Also run cat /var/log/messages There may be a clue there This happens ...

Open your sound mixer and turn your mic down to zero and see if that helps. If you're using xfce GhostBSD you'll need to install the xfce4-mixer package to do this
